The Islamic School of Rhode Island offers a solid education founded on the importance of Knowledge, Faith, and Discipline. But we remind ourselves and our students in every morning assembly to strive for excellence and to begin the day with Dua and the intention of doing good and being the best Muslim. Our day begins with Quran for all grade school students with the school's mission prominently displayed.
Rigor Curriculum:
ISRI curriculum is designed to spiral across grade levels, increasing in complexity and level of mastery each year. Common Core State Standards is rigorously implemented to go with the 21st-century skills. Teachers strive to help students make connections across curricular areas to provide experiences that stimulate learning in all developmental areas – spiritual, physical, social, emotional and intellectual. Integration among the curricula is focused upon during the daily teaching practices.
ISRI curriculum is divided into two main branches: traditional program including the core subjects such as Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Language Arts, Computer Studies, Art, Library, Physical Education and Health and non-traditional program for teaching Qur’an, Islamic Studies, and Arabic Studies (QAIS). The traditional curriculum meets the terms of the standards and objectives of teaching in public schools. While the nontraditional program prepares students to read and understand Qur'an and the teachings of Islam. Arabic is taught as a foreign language to help students get connected to the language of revelation.
Core subjects have been designed in keeping with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). We use Scott Foresman Curriculum Language Arts, and Social Studies in Elementary school. For Science, we are using McGraw-Hill curriculum for elementary school, and Glencoe Curriculum for Middle School. We use Holt Mcdougal Common Core Curriculum for English Language Arts for Middle School. For Math, we have Scott Foresman Curriculum enforced for Grades K-8. Extra-curricular activities and school field trips are provided for all classes.
QAIS curriculum has been designed to build a strong relationship between students and Islam through knowledge and practice. In Qur'an, ISRI students learn Tajweed, memories many Swar of the Holy Qur'an, study Tafseer and understand the context of revelation. ISRI Leadership developed the Qur'an curriculum to protect the kids of misunderstanding of Qur'an. We implement the " I Love Islam" series to teach Islamic Studies in Elementary school. Middle school study "Islamic Studies" series. For Arabic, we are using the series of Al-Afaq in Arabic Language الآفاق في" اللغة العربية ."
ELEMENTARY: 1ST – 5TH GRADE
ISRI provides its students with a challenging, standards-based curriculum, which emphasizes fundamental skills. Subjects include reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Islamic Studies, Arabic, Visual Art, Library Physical Education and Health. Extra-curricular activities and school field trips will be provided for all classes.
JUNIOR HIGH / MIDDLE SCHOOL: 6TH, 7TH & 8TH GRADE
The more demanding junior high program is designed for a student’s personal growth and is structured to provide consistency and support, while fostering each student’s evolving sense of academic responsibility and independence. The curriculum consists of Language Arts, Mathematics, Life and Physical Sciences, American History in Social Studies, Islamic Studies, Arabic, Computer Literacy, Visual Art, Physical Education, Library and Health.
